How Tadalafil Works: Tadalafil is a PDE5 inhibitor type of drug. During the process of erection Cyclic, GMP aids in the relaxation of the smooth muscles of the penis, and helps in continuous blood flow. PDE5 (phosphodiesterase 5) enzyme helps in breaking down the Cyclic GMP. Therefore, Tadalafil directly stops the function of phosphodiesterase 5 enzyme found in the penis area, and hence stops the breaking down of Cyclic GMP. Thus, Tadalafil helps directly in maintaining prolonged erection, and thus by preventing the erectile dysfunction symptoms. Tadalafil is 10,000 times less effective on other phosphodiesterase enzymes found in the other parts of the body, like the brain, heart etc.
Dosage Of Tadalafil: In case of adult, erectile dysfunction is treated with 10 mg of Tadalafil dose just 1 hour before the sexual activity. In cases, where the efficacy of the Tadalafil needs to be maintained, then 2.5 mg of this drug daily with or without sexual activity can be administered. This dose of Tadalafil can be increased to 5 mg per day, based on the need and the efficacy of the drug. For treating benign prostatic hyperplasia the dose can be 5 mg, which can be taken along with or even without food. In case of pulmonary arterial hypertension, 40 mg of Tadalafil is given with or without food, every day, which can be broken down to multiple lower doses based on the need.
